Hello there Oppo. I am a long time lurker and only a recent commenter. Even more recently though I became an author here so I figured it would be a good time for a welcome post. Also this is my first post on the kinja so if the post is borked I apologize.
I am a 20 year old currently working at a Mini dealership in Upstate New York (Read:Rochester) as a sales adviser. This has been an excellent way to turn my hobby into my job and I couldn’t be more glad. Along with Mini we have 9 other makes including my personal favorite, Alfa Romeo (expect posts about that soon).
I’ve been into cars for as long as I can remember and have had 15 different cars so far (If you don’t want your kids having money for drugs, make them an oppo). I hope to be a part of the community going forward and expect more posts and comments from me going forward.
Regarding my handle, it has to do with the car in my profile pic, my 1972 Ford Custom, and the first post I actually commented on over on the FP. That’s a story for another time though.
Also 458 that we just took in on trade for your time.

Welcome. Kinja is a test in patience. It doesn't even keep its own name in the spellcheck. I've found the more photo's you ad the more likely the borking. Just don't let it frustrate you.

Rochester is pretty far out there! That’s a haul. Are you interested in driving out for meets? I mean, you’ve got one long haul to make, but we can work something if you want.
Feel free to shoot me an email, [username]@gmail, and we can keep in touch about events.
Have you ever gone to Caffeine & Carburetors? That’s in New Canaan, CT, unfortunately about as far as you can get from where you are currently.
And most importantly, how are you handling the year without a ton of snow already? Do you know what to do with yourself?

Believe it or not we finally got our first couple of snow storms so I’m no longer able to just wear a T-shirt. Unfortunately I have never been to Caffenie & Carburetors but it does look rather neat. If I ever get a chance to swing by I’ll be sure to keep in touch!

I’ll have to try that. I occasionally experience a glitch that will toss a photo to the top of the post even if its supposed to be farther down the story. Said photo will then refuse to go anywhere but the top. If it works there I’ll leave it; if it doesn’t I scrap it.
Oh. There are grammar Nazis here. Don’t let them get you down, as most of them don’t have any original content of their own. These goons want to be editors or something as they just go around critiquing others work.

I’m going to school in Rochester, I drive past that dealership all the time! (At least I’m assuming it’s the one you’re referring to, seeing as how I’ve only seen one Alfa dealership sign in the Rochester area)

302. It came with the 2 bbl and was god awful slow but was my daily driver too and from college for a year. I've never had a car that started easier.

The owner was telling us it was something like a 43k dollar option. It has gold flakes in it if you look close enough. Pictures really can’t even do the color justice.

Nice!
My Montego has a 302. Swapping an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and a 4 barrel Holley REALLY woke it up.

I swaped on a Holley 650 and an edlebrock torker 2 intake. Deferentially need to switch the intake again now that I know how bad the Torker is. And I can not get the Holley to tune so I switched that over to a Rochester Q-jet and it runs way smoother now.

the problem may be that if everything else is stock on the 302, a 650 is way too much carb. Thats a lot of fuel for a little motor. Mine is only about 400 CFM
ALSO, the Performer RPM is awesome.
Reece-Current Stinger GT owner
> MontegoMan562 is a Capri RS Owner
01/04/2016 at 10:42 | 0 |
Hmm I never really thought of it that way. I may have to try running a smaller carb then, because I have a hell of a stumble at WOT that wont go away no matter how lean I tune either carb.
MontegoMan562 is a Capri RS Owner
> Reece-Current Stinger GT owner
01/04/2016 at 10:46 | 0 |
yeah, too much fuel or the carb needs a rebuild.
I was motivated to do the swap because I didn’t want to bother rebuilding the stock 2 barrel, which would almost stall if I floored it. Fuel just wasn’t moving through.
My guess is too much fuel and you can only turn it down so much.
My dad used to be a semi-pro drag racer, he had a 351 Cleveland in a Torino he was racing. It was a stripped out legit drag car running race fuel, but even then he only had about a 450-500 CFM carb. he said he put a 750 on once and it was slower because it was way too rich.

> MontegoMan562 is a Capri RS Owner

That would make sense. If I put mine to the floor it just bogs and won’t go anywhere. And the carb is brand new so I’m guessing its time to go smaller.

Yeah sounds like it.
The 400 on mine has been great. I love the way the engine is running right now. If it weren’t leaking coolant it would be perfect. (Pretty sure I have bad freeze plugs which means engine may have to be pulled)

Ouch. I just put mine up for the winter but it needs all new brakes on all four corners so that’s my first thing to do in the spring.

> Reece-Current Stinger GT owner
01/04/2016 at 10:55 | 0 |
Well mine’s parked in the garage for the year. I mean i’m tempted to try and pull the motor over the winter and do the plugs. But it’s going to be cold as hell out there soon (Metro Detroit). I also thought about rebuilding if the motor’s out already. Not sure though.
It may be the mechanic’s problem come spring. Brakes have been holding up well in mine (Knocks on wood) which is nice because all 4 are drum brakes and no they are not power.

Same here drum non-power brakes. They have a leak somewhere and the drums are getting warped so I figure its finally time to break down and do the whole system.

Power steering?
Mine is a Cyclone package (not model, but package) so it got power steering and a sway bar - but no power brakes lol. Hell of a performance handling package right?

I do have power steering. I think its the only option on the car. Mine isn’t even like an LTD or custom 500 it’s just a custom. Its a pain in the ass to get parts for because not many people even realize the model exists.

man that must have sucked.
Montego only drives on sunny days and not at night if avoidable.
despite having SIX LIGHTS ON THE FRONT OF IT. quad headlights (middle 2 are high beam though) and it has fog lights.

I’d have to say my favorite so far would be my Trans am because it was my first car. Least would have been the Corvette because mine had cracks in the fiberglass and overall it was just a hot pile of garbage.
